Can you install a backsplash over existing tile?

Sometimes, but we usually advise against it. Tiling over existing backsplash adds thickness that changes how outlets, window returns and cabinet edges terminate, and it doubles the weight on the wall. Removing the old tile is not a large part of the job and the result is cleaner.

Do you tile all the way to the ceiling behind the range?

We do, and it is a popular request. Full-height tile behind a range or hood reads as a deliberate feature. It needs the layout planned from the hood downward so cuts do not land awkwardly at the top.

Do you tile behind the stove and around outlets?

Yes. Outlets, switches, range hoods and window returns are exactly where a backsplash is judged. We cut around them so the tile lines stay continuous and the plate covers the cut cleanly.

Where the backsplash meets the countertop and the cabinet, we finish with silicone rather than grout — those are changes of plane that will move seasonally, and grout there cracks within the first year.
